A cherry tree

I took this photograph recently while on a walk. I particularly like the way the light filters through areas of the foliage capturing different tonal qualities. I would hope to translate this piece in to a drawing in the near future as I find the form and colour lend themselves quite naturally to my style of drawing.

A tree or three

These two photographs document a drawing that I recently sold from my portfolio at the degree show.

Degree show 2010

These photographs depict some of the pieces I displayed as part of my work for the degree show. Using a combination of print, hand-embroidery and appliqué I have tried to capture the different qualities of nature.

Yellow

This photograph details a section of hand-embroidery from a large scale piece which has been included amongst the work I selected for the degree show. In total I will be displaying 4 pieces which will hopefully highlight my interest in capturing through print, stitch and appliqué the ephemeral qualities of nature.

A stitch or two

This piece details the hand-embroidery of a large scale sample which will hopefully feature as part of my degree show. The piece is attempting to capture movement and density of mark through varying the scale of the stitch as well as the thickness of thread. I have tried to think carefully about the composition of this piece (which unfortunately the photograph does not quite capture) as I was keen to generate the feeling of a stark and isolated landscape which are often synonymous with the British winter.
