An evening at the seaside. Me, Liam, a bobble hat and an Iron Man.
Christmas Craft Fair at The Brindley. 25th November 2011.

This Friday I took part in my very first Christmas craft fair along with my lovely friend and fellow artist Carys Hughes. We both felt a bit like novices alongside all the other experienced crafty types but it was very nice all the same. I enjoyed working towards a new angle and for a different audience at The Brindley. I created a range of pieces including prints, cards, decorations and brooches. Myself and Carys decided to share a stall on the day so that we could also promote our latest venture together - Hazlehurst Craft Studios. We have now secured the premises for the new studios in a listed, disused Power station which is really exciting and are currently working on the finer details, of which there are plenty. We are hoping to launch the studios in Spring 2012 but this is dependant on many different factors, but hopefully all our hard work will eventually be rewarded. It's been a fantastic learning curve so far, so here's to the next phase!

5.8 x 4.1 Exhibition

I recently donated a piece of work to the 5.8 x 4.1 exhibition which has been organised by the current Embroidery third years as part of a fundraiser for their degree show next year. All the pieces of work will remain annoynmous till after the auction when they will be revealed to their buyer. For a full view of all the works on display, click the link below. The exhibition runs from the 28th November till the 8th December.

The BIG Draw

During the month of October The Big Draw took place, a national event hosted in many different and wonderful venues across the UK. The event is designed to encourage children, adults, oldies, tiddlers and everyone else in between to pick up their pencils (or in my case tape) and draw.

I had been kindly asked to run a series of workshops at CRMZ, a new youth centre based in Widnes, alongside fellow artists Claire Weetman, Carys-Anne Hughes and Sharon Lelonek. For my workshops I chose to explore the theme of maps, a subject matter I had touched upon in my own work a few years ago. Using tape and adhesive coloured vinyl I worked with children between the ages of 8-14 years old to decorate windows with colourful pattern. I was really pleased with the outcome and the children's achievements considering the short time scale. Our vibrant splash of colour was well received.
